CATCH NYC
Gagged.
You would think that with a menu as sprawling as to serve sushi and pastas, the food would not be that good. Think again! Catch NYC was seriously an awesome dining experience and I could not get enough. The atmosphere was very ~trendy~ and came with a private elevator up to the restaurant floor.
Drinks: I ordered the Kali Margarita, which I kind of regretted, with jalapeño-infused tequila, grand marnier, campari, yuzu, and passionfruit. For some reason it just didn’t do it for me, but I did finish it. I also ended the night with an Espresso Martini which was good.
Appetizers: We decided to just order whatever sounded good, so that ended up being the Catch Roll, made with crab, salmon, and miso-honey. Delicious! It had some heat, some sweetness and nuttiness, and of course, fresh seafood.
The Spinach Artichoke Salad was something a little different than the normal caesar, and complemented part of our dinner conversation which consisted of the resurgence of artichokes being served in restaurants and how heart-healthy they are. It was good! I am always a tad wary when spinach are the main greens in a salad, but it was dressed well and held up to the dressing.
Hot Starters: We also went with the Spicy Gigli Pasta with calabrian chile cream and parmesan. Another delicious dish! It was spicy, creamy, and the pasta was cooked well. I have had better spicy, creamy pastas, but this one definitely did the trick.
Another great starter was the Wagyu Gyoza. These were in a tangy and salty amazu ponzu, accompanied with serrano chili, and Japanese miyazaki. The dumplings were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, everything you’d want out of a good gyoza.
Entrées: Our lone true entrée was the Wagyu Fried Rice with shiitake mushroom, Chinese sausage, and fried egg. The rice was served in a hot bowl, making the rice nice and crispy on the bottom. The rice was seasoned super well and there were noticeable pieces of wagyu throughout.
Dessert: This was clearly a bit of a splurgy dining experience, so we topped it off with Warm Ricotta Donuts and Espresso Martinis. The donuts are served with a selection of sauces that you can literally fill your donuts with at the table: cream cheese frosting, milk chocolate, salted caramel, and raspberry lime sauce. Each sauce was delicious and the donuts were super warm, fluffy and soft on the inside, and crispy on the outside.
I had a great experience at Catch and would totally recommend for a splurge-worthy night or a catch-up with a friend (or both).
